Mary Jane Clark is an internationally-trained art historian and museum professional with over thirty-five years of experience in art research, fine art collections care management, and art exhibition planning and installations. She was trained in Chinese art history and connoisseurship at Wellesley and Yale, then worked at the National Palace Museum (Taiwan), Smithsonian Institution, Ashmolean Museum, and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as a researcher, translator, collections manager, and traveling exhibition authority. A specialist in Chinese painting and calligraphy, she has also taught Chinese art history and collections care at Yale, Dartmouth, and the Smithsonian, and is often invited to speak at local civic and cultural organizations on the topics of art and antiques appraisal, art care, and collections management.

Mary Jane applies her unique research, teaching, and museum collections management skills as an independent art consultant and art and antiques appraiser for private and public collections. A graduate of the Appraisal Studies in Art & Antiques certificate program offered by The Rhode Island School of Design and the American Society of Appraisers, she de-mystifies the current international market for American, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts and antiques with clear and analytical appraisals.

Mary Jane has been a long-standing member of the American Association of Museums’ Registrars Committee. She also serves on the board of trustees of the Norwich Historical Society in Norwich, Vermont, and volunteers as a pricing expert with New England’s venerable Five-Colleges Book Sale.
